Commentary on Possible DWI Accident at Tidwell Road Bus Stop in Houston

These are obviously concerning accusations, and unfortunately it would be nothing new for Houston if they turned out to be true. Locals are constantly lamenting the city's problem with drunk driving, but frankly it's a problem across the whole state. That's why I do what I can to ensure folks at least have some understanding of what may come next for the victims and families involved.

Put simply, there's often more to these situations than just some driver getting a day in court. There is often an accomplice to hold accountable, as well: a bar. In Texas, dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. So not only can those businesses putting the community in danger face consequences, but those consequences can give victims and families a significant opportunity to get the help they need.

Hopefully investigators looking into all of this have the experience and tools to ensure all those responsible for this awful event face the appropriate consequences as soon as possible.
