Jesus Martinez Injured in Crash with Wrong-Way Driver on TX-183 in Irving

Irving, TX — September 25, 2022, 42-year-old Jesus Martinez was seriously injured in an accident with a wrong-way driver on State Highway 183 in Irving.

Authorities say the incident happened around 2:50 a.m. on Highway 183 near Esters Boulevard. Preliminary investigation suggests a Nissan Altima was allegedly traveling east in the westbound lanes of the highway, against traffic, when it crashed at an offset with a Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Martinez.

Martinez and the wrong-way driver suffered serious injuries in the crash. Two passengers in the van were unhurt.

Investigators suspected the Nissan driver was intoxicated and collected blood samples for testing.

No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Jesus Martinez Accident in Irving

If the allegations of impairment prove to be true, sadly it wouldn't be that surprising. Whenever a driver goes the wrong way on a limited-access road like a highway, it's almost always because they were intoxicated--significantly so. In those events the source of their alcohol should be identified. But why?

The reason that matters is because people most often travel toward headlights after local bars or other alcohol-serving venues illegally over-serve them way past their limits. If that happened in Irving that might mean a law-breaking business is liable for the injuries caused on TX-183, even to the wrong-way driver, under dram shop law.

I can't say if a bar broke the law without more thorough investigations, but I think most would agree that the serious damage done merits every effort to ensure those responsible face consequences.
