Four Injured in Three-Vehicle Accident on I-84 in Jerome County, ID

Jerome, ID — October 19, 2022, four people were injured in a three-vehicle accident involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 84 in Jerome County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 8:55 p.m. on I-84 near mile marker 163. Preliminary investigation suggests a Freightliner semi-truck was headed west on the highway when the driver lost control for unknown reasons, rolled through the median, and came to rest in the eastbound lanes.

Moments later a Nissan hatchback headed east on the road hit the stopped semi-truck and became disabled. It was then hit by an eastbound Freightliner truck.

Commentary on Three-Vehicle Crash on I-84 near Jerome

This looks like a pretty complicated situation to make sense of. Between one truck rolling over, a car hitting it, and then a second truck plowing into the scene, it seems like there will be plenty of questions about exactly how and why things went that way. The only way to really answer those questions is to find the facts through careful investigation, so I hope law enforcement plans to take the time and care needed to get to the bottom of things.

Unfortunately I've learned over the years that's not always the case if a department has conflicting priorities or highly-limited resources to invest on traffic accidents. Their investigations are sometimes rushed or incomplete, so many people benefit from having independent experts take a second look and see that nothing important slipped through the cracks. Would that kind of attention be helpful here to ensure the people affected get the help they deserve?
