East Wheatfield Township, PA -- October 18, 2022, one person was injured due to an accident where a box truck and dump truck crashed.

Officials said that the incident happened just before 8:00 a.m. along Route 22 just off Gas Center Road.

It appears that a box truck was driving along Route 22 at reportedly low speeds while looking for a particular address. While doing so, police say a dump truck slammed into the back of the box truck.

The box truck driver sustained unspecified injuries while no other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.

Commentary on Box Truck Accident on Route 22 in East Wheatfield Township

When it comes to rear-end collisions like this, it's important not to simply assume that the rear driver did something wrong. Now, the most likely explanation, of course, is that the rear truck driver did do something wrong, like speeding, distracted driving, or following too closely. One has to wonder why a driver--a professional, no less--failed to see a large truck ahead.

With that said, another commercial truck driving slowly can sometimes be an unnecessary hazard. It's important to consider exactly how slowly the victim's truck was going and whether or not it was clearly visible to approaching motorists. If other drivers had no issues going around the truck, the dump truck driver may have some explaining to do. Otherwise, evidence could show that this particular incident isn't as black-and-white as it may seem.
