Dallas, TX — July 29, 2022, 25-year-old Joseph Rivera was injured in a single-vehicle accident on Julius Schepps Freeway in Dallas.
Authorities say the incident happened around 2:20 a.m. on Schepps Freeway (I-45) near Overton Road. Preliminary investigation suggests Rivera was driving a GMC Yukon south on the freeway in the middle lane when he may have lost control for unknown reasons. He veered left and the SUV started to rotate, then crashed into a guardrail. It spun some more and rebounded through the travel lanes, then came to rest facing traffic on the right shoulder.
Rivera was ejected from the Yukon as it spun through the road and suffered serious injuries.

Commentary on Joseph Rivera Accident in Dallas
People may quickly jump to certain conclusions about the cause of a late-night wreck like this one, but it's important to keep an open mind and not to take anything for granted before all the facts are in. Investigators only mentioned "turned when unsafe" as a causal factor in the wreck but didn't include any thoughts about why the SUV veered off-course; hopefully that means they're still carefully weighing the various possible reasons for that.
Reasons like what? What might make a driver swerve out of his travel lane and hit a guardrail? There are many explanations for that--losing traction on a wet road, mechanical failures or defects in the vehicle, falling asleep at the wheel, etc--and each deserves careful consideration.
The most important thing is to uncover the real truth of what happened here, as well as using that truth to get whatever help can be obtained for the injured person. Will those steps be taken on the Dallas victim's behalf?
