Two Injured in Three-Vehicle Accident at 34th and I-27 in Lubbock, TX

Lubbock, TX — October 17, 2022, two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident in the late evening at a Lubbock intersection.

Authorities say the incident happened just before 7:30 at 34th Street and Interstate 27. There aren't many details yet about what happened, but reports indicate three vehicles collided in the area and two people sustained unspecified injuries.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Lubbock Auto Accident at 34th and I-27

There isn't a lot of clear information yet about how exactly this crash happened or what caused it. To find the clear facts that tell the whole story police need to look into many potential factors, like:

  • Operator errors like distraction, speeding, or failure to yield;
  • Whether anyone was impaired (and what else that might imply);
  • Malfunctions and/or defects in their vehicles;
  • Road conditions and design;
  • Visibility, lighting and sightlines;
  • Inclement weather; and
  • Any other traffic in the area, just to name a few.

Checking whether those and other issues played parts is important, and until investigators can connect more dots it's best not to guess what picture they'll make.

Unfortunately there's also a chance that police won't complete that picture if they don't have enough time or resources to prioritize a non-fatal wreck. That's why I often suggest a second look by independent experts to better ensure the whole truth is found. Whatever is learned, those affected deserve to know that no stone was left unturned.
