Commentary on Alice Man Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 359 in Duval County

When it comes to crashes like this, I feel like I'm the only one wondering if something unusual happened. Ironically, folks are quick to assume I'm anti-trucker. But then, when something like this happens, everyone just waves it off and assumes the trucker was speeding, texting, or fell asleep at the wheel. Those are certainly common possibilities, but what about other possible factors?

One possibility, for example, is mechanical issues. I find time and time again when I look into wrecks like this that authorities don't even bother looking into the truck's mechanical condition. There are all kinds of things which can go wrong, and some drivers are forced to operate dangerous vehicles because their companies are just too reckless to do repairs. Could it be something like that happened here? Maybe not, but it's important to ensure the evidence speaks for itself. Knowing where to look can be a crucial first step to that end.
