Wleh Cheleh Injured in Truck Accident in Wyandotte County, KS

It appears that the crash took place at around 6:00 a.m. along I-70 near mile marker 412. Details say that 34-year-old Wleh Cheleh was the driver of a Volvo semi-truck traveling along eastbound I-70. The truck somehow veered off-road where it then overturned into a ditch.

Cheleh was pinned under the wreckage, though authorities believe he was wearing a seatbelt. EMS transported Cheleh to the hospital in unclear condition. Additional details are unavailable.

Commentary on Wleh Cheleh Truck Accident in Wyandotte County

It's always concerning to see police say that someone was wearing a seatbelt, yet they were thrown from the vehicle. This is sometimes a sign that something didn't work the way it was supposed to. Did the seatbelt break? Did it come unlatched at the time it was needed most? Moreover, did this semi hold up appropriately given the severity of the crash?

An issue I rarely see addressed is how some manufacturer continue to build trucks which have little to no regard for the safety of the driver. Could it be this driver would have been better off in a truck built with higher standards? Perhaps more thorough independent investigations could shed light on whether or not there's more to this story than a simple rollover.
