Commentary on Ariel Nicole Thomas Car Accident in The Woodlands

Folks tend to look at pedestrian incidents as black and white. Either the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, or they weren't. What more is there to tell? In reality, these incidents can be complex depending on why they occurred.

For example, it's possible that the victim was clearly visible, but the driver wasn't paying attention. It's possible that this area is a known danger for pedestrians which officials have yet to address. It's even possible to have a situation like one a family came to me with not that long ago where their loved ones wandered into a traffic because a local drinking establishment illegally over-served him to the point he wasn't aware of where he was walking.

Likely or not, these and many other possible factors warrant thorough investigation. If nothing else, a family grieving for the loss of their loved one deserves to know they're getting all the facts.
