Commentary on Truck Accident on Austin Peay Hwy in Memphis

It's not clear what happened here, but any serious crash is worth getting into the hands of experienced professional investigators. That's not to knock the hard (and often thankless) work police do, but in many cases waiting for them to turn up some real answers doesn't work out as well as it ideally should. Between competing priorities, limited resources, and a lack of staff to send everywhere that needs police attention, local departments can't always devote the necessary time or attention to even fatal accidents like this one. That means crucial details may slip through the cracks.

Maybe that won't be an issue here and police will get to the bottom of things, but I think most would agree that the people affected by this crash deserve to know every effort was made to find the whole story. If police can't promise that, maybe someone else should step in to fill in some more blanks.
