Troy Pina Injured in Truck Accident in Brazil, IN
Brazil, IN -- October 4, 2022, Troy Pina was injured as the result of an accident where his truck overturned after a car hit it.
Initial details from Clay County officials said that the incident happened at around 8:00 a.m. along I-70.
40-year-old Troy Pina was said to be a new model semi-truck driven westbound along the interstate. While traveling, a Honda apparently tried to merge, crashing with Pina's semi. The truck then ran off-road where it flipped over.
EMS transported Pina from the scene via helicopter. It's unclear if anyone else was hurt. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
Commentary on Troy Pina Truck Accident in Brazil
If the allegations here are true, then it's a shame to see someone simply minding their business facing serious injuries because someone couldn't check their blind spot. With that said, whatever responsibility the car driver may or may not have for the crash, there is likely another important question to answer: Who is responsible for the victim's injuries? While folks may think that's the same answer, that's not always true--particularly with semi-truck rollovers.
A problem in the trucking industry is that a lot of manufacturers simply don't care about protecting drivers. There are times where a rollover should be relatively minor, and a well-built truck would withstand its weight and protect the driver. Other, lower quality trucks, however, crumple under the weight. This causes crashes which would otherwise be minor to become serious or even deadly.
I can't say whether or not that happened here, but it's worth finding out if a newer model of truck is still experiencing the same old problems manufacturers should have remedied years ago.
