Commentary on Jose Pacheco Accident in El Paso

Almost every time I see a crash like this, it doesn't take long to find theories flying fast and loose from commenters. Chief among their guesses are ways the driver might have made a fatal mistake, like losing control at high speeds or getting distracted by a cell phone. Cynics often include impairment in the list, particularly in late-night and early-morning wrecks.

The specifics of this crash are somewhat unique in that the driver seems to have slowed down drastically even as he lost control and left the road. That would seem to rule out speeding as an explanation, but figuring out what didn't cause the crash isn't as helpful as determining what did. Police will most likely look at possible driver mistakes still, but given the details involved they should also consider whether a vehicle failure or even a sudden medical episode had something to do with the wreck and its tragic outcome.

It's always important to consider all the possible variables and keep an open mind until clear facts and evidence can tell the true story. Will police take the time and care here to ensure the victim's loved ones get the answers they deserve?
