Cleburne, TX — September 30, 2022, Jennifer Walker died and Jessica Watson was injured in a car accident on U.S. Highway 67 near Cleburne.

Authorities say the incident happened around 6:00 p.m. along US-67. Preliminary investigation suggests Walker, 48, was driving east in a Honda Accord when she may have lost control for unknown reasons. The car crossed over the center line into the westbound lane where it collided with a Hyundai Palisade driven by Watson, 31.

Both women were reportedly wearing seat belts, but Walker suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Watson was transported to a Fort Worth hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Commentary on Jennifer Walker, Jessica Watson Accident near Cleburne

Reports say one driver crossed left of center and triggered this wreck, but even if investigators are certain about that there's still little indication of why that happened. That's why I wonder if police efforts alone will be enough to really learn the whole story.

I don't mean to talk out of school about law enforcement, but people don't always realize how backed up, understaffed, and overworked a lot of departments really are. Traffic investigations rarely get the priority or time they deserve, and that sometimes means in their rush to find a simple explanation and fill out a report that traffic officers miss critical details.

Maybe nothing like that will happen here and a clear explanation will be found. I certainly hope so, but at the same time I think it's best for anyone affected by an incident like this--be they an injured victim or a grieving family trying to make some sense of things--to know what should be looked for during a full investigation. If any of those blanks are left unfilled by police, it may be best to reach out to independent experts for another look.
