Commentary on Johnston County Auto Accident on Hwy 1

Almost every time I see a crash like this, I soon come across readers speculating about all the ways it's "most likely" the driver's fault. There's no shortage of guesswork about speeding or inattention as fingers are pointed at cell phone use or digging in a cooler rather than watching the road--all without waiting for further investigation or supporting evidence.

It's not that those issues aren't important to look into, but it's not right to jump to conclusions or take any potential factor of a crash for granted. It's always important to consider all the possible variables; anything from glancing at the radio to a sudden medical emergency to a major mechanical failure or defect in the pickup could have been behind this tragic incident, so it's best to keep an open mind and make sure experienced professionals are the ones connecting the dots. Will the necessary steps be taken here to ensure the Johnston County victim's loved ones get the answers they deserve?
