Brin Adams Killed by Vehicle while Walking on Hwy 114 in Lubbock, TX

UPDATE (October 6, 2022): Sources have identified the victim of this accident as 42-year-old Brin Lee Adams.

Lubbock, TX — September 29, 2022, a pedestrian walking on State Highway 114 was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle in Lubbock.

Authorities say the incident happened around 9:50 p.m. along Highway 114 near Research Boulevard. Preliminary investigation suggests a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was westbound on the highway when the driver changed from the outside to the inside lane.

The 16-year-old driver told police he didn't see the pedestrian, who was allegedly wearing dark clothing and walking west in the inside lane--with traffic instead of against it--and the pickup fatally struck the victim.

No further information is available at this time.

While they don't have many preliminary details, early news reports still paint a troubling picture. It's important to find out exactly how and why a man lost his life here, and I hope investigators will take the time and care to look into all the lingering questions.

For instance: Why was the victim walking along the road in the first place? Is that stretch of road illuminated in any way at night? How long was he there before the pickup came along? Were the truck's lights on? Was the driver's full attention on the road? Did other vehicles successfully avoid the victim before the pickup came along?

The point of all these questions and the many others like them isn't to overcomplicate things or make accusations. I just firmly believe, as I think most people do, that it's only right to investigate these matters thoroughly. The victim's loved ones deserve no less than the whole story, and only careful attention to detail can deliver that to them.
