Authorities say the incident happened around 2:25 a.m. along Preston near Arapaho Road. Preliminary investigation suggests only that Springsteen was driving a Can-Am Ryker three-wheeled motorcycle in the area of 15700 Preston when he allegedly passed through a red light at Arapaho and crashed with another vehicle in the intersection.

Springsteen suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was taken to an area hospital. Investigating police mentioned detecting signs of intoxication and collected blood samples for testing.

Commentary on Jordon Springsteen Accident in Dallas

Police seem to think alcohol use was an issue here. Blood tests might bear out their suspicions and consequences would likely follow if it turns out the victim was intoxicated, but nobody should be too hasty to point fingers regardless. There could be more to the story and it's important to consider all the potential factors--including whether a local business may bear some responsibility for what happened on Preston Road.

Texas dram shop law says any licensed alcohol vendor that sells or serves excessive quantities of alcohol to its customers may be liable for any damage those intoxicated customers cause or suffer while under the influence. This helps people harmed in or by DWI accidents seek much-needed help from the businesses that recklessly ignored the law for bigger sales, thereby putting their customers and the public at risk. Moreover, it teaches those same negligent businesses a serious lesson about getting their priorities in order.

Again, there must still be proof before theories about alcohol could be considered facts. If blood tests confirm what police think, though, then there are further steps to the investigation--ones law enforcement doesn't always bother to take. Would the efforts of independent professionals stand a better chance of getting this injured man the help he deserves?
