Commentary on Harald Herrmann Truck Accident in Moss Beach

To be rather blunt, it's unlikely this sort of thing happens without the truck driver making a serious mistake. Drifting over the center line is almost always the result of things like fatigue or distracted driving. But that doesn't necessarily make a situation like this simple or straight-forward. That's why it's important to make sure there are thorough independent investigations.

I'll give an example from a case I handled not long ago. A trucker texting and driving caused a serious crash, and that all seemed pretty straight-forward. But as we kept looking into things, it turned out the truck driver was basically required to text and drive. His supervisor would harass employees all day, and if they didn't respond quickly enough, they'd get in trouble. This idiot supervisor essentially made their drivers text and drive just because he was impatient and controlling. He was either too stupid to realize how dangerous that was or just didn't give a damn.

I can't say something like that happened here without more thorough investigations. My point is simply that folks are quick to blame someone immediately and put everything on them. Maybe that would be the end result here, but a family deserves to know all parties responsible for their horrible loss are facing the appropriate consequences. Are those steps being taken here?
