Commentary on Teen Killed Truck Accident on FM 54 in Littlefield

These details are obviously devastating to see, but it's important that folks understand what needs to happen after a tragic truck wreck like this. These early details should be taken with a grain of salt if only to ensure the victim's loved ones know the full story. Folks see claims of a vehicle driven by a teen supposedly crossing into oncoming traffic, and they're all too willing to believe the victim made a mistake. As common as that is, are authorities looking into other possibilities?

Mechanical issues, medical episodes, defective tires, road hazards, other reckless drivers that left the scene--common or not, investigations need to cover all possibilities. Ensuring a family knows the whole story is crucial for getting them the answers and the help they deserve. Unfortunately, authorities don't always have the tools to do this. In fact, they, too, can be quick to overlook a crash involving a teen driver.

When I look into deadly wrecks, I give folks the benefit of the doubt until the evidence can speak for itself. I don't make exceptions just because a teenager is statistically more likely to be in the wrong. They and their loved ones deserve better. The article below may help shed light on why I operate this way.
