Commentary on David Ponce Hit-and-Run in Manor

It's always frustrating and disappointing to read about incidents like this. Whatever compelled the driver to leave the scene after fatally injuring someone, it's important to track them down and see that they answer for the harm they did.

For that to happen police must stay diligent and community members should come forward with any information they can provide about the suspect. No one seems to have many insights yet about what to look for, but hopefully authorities are hard at work looking for witnesses, telltale vehicle debris, or footage from nearby traffic cameras or businesses that will help them and the public identify the hit-and-run vehicle.

When (not if, but when) the suspect is apprehended hopefully investigators can find out what led them to abandon the scene and the person they hurt. They might simply have panicked, but in many cases something else (illegal contraband, outstanding warrants, drunk driving) contributed to their poor decision. Only time and thorough investigation can tell, but if everyone does their part I'm hopeful that justice can be served.
