Commentary on Cornelius "Niel" Loewen Truck Accident in Brownfield

Just to be clear, I have as much reason to contradict these reports as I do to take them 100% at face value--that is to say I have no reason to do either. Early information is usually piecemeal, and it usually takes more thorough investigations to get people the answers they deserve.

Is it possible the victim had been drinking? Sure, and it would raise the important question of whether or not a local establishment illegally over-served him. They could be liable under dram shop law for their role in the accident. With all of that said, however, there's an important details about the victim which inherently makes me skeptical of any of these claims: the fact he was on a motorcycle.

Fact of the matter is folks are quick to blame motorcyclists just because they see all riders as dangerous. Those reckless daredevils are out there, but many riders are safe an responsible. Despite this, I've seen situations were witnesses blamed a motorcyclist for weaving, speeding, doing stunts, and other reckless actions only for cold hard facts to come to light which shows they did nothing of the sort. Could that be what happened here?

If nothing else, I'd say a young man losing his life warrants every possible effort to get clear answers about what happened here.
