Commentary on Charles Edwin Johnson Car Accident in Midland

It's obviously serious anytime alcohol comes up as a possibility. Part of that is due to the possibility some local business illegally over-served the victim and contributed to the crash.

I've had hundreds of families come to me about the death of a loved one only for our investigations to find some bar or restaurant served them to the point they could barely walk. Despite the clear danger they posed, establishments send these folks out to get themselves and others killed. It's why things like dram shop law allow victims and families to see out and confront those alcohol provider for their negligence and hold them accountable.

With all of that said, that's if alcohol was a factor here. I've also seen many instances of police bringing up alcohol just because it's common only for evidence to show alcohol wasn't a factor. I would never simply take the claim of alcohol in stories like these and run with them without also considering all of the pother possible factors which could be involved. Doing that would just be begging for something important to slip through the cracks. The question now is if authorities here exercised equal prudence or if more thorough investigations would show there's more to this story the victim's family needs to hear.
