Diann Sanchez Rodriguez Injured in Pedestrian Accident in Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX -- August 27, 2022, Diann Sanchez Rodriguez was injured after an accident where a vehicle struck her in the roadway.

Officials were called to the 5400 block of East Grand Avenue/Highway 78 near Fairview Avenue.

At around 11:00 p.m., investigators said that 59-year-old Diann Sanchez Rodriguez was walking and was in lanes of East Grand. While there, a northbound vehicle hit Rodriguez.

The collision resulted in apparently incapacitating injuries. Police said the driver was coming from a bar, but it's unclear if alcohol contributed to the collision. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Diann Sanchez Rodriguez Pedestrian Accident in Dallas

While it's not clear if alcohol was truly a factor here, any mention of a driver coming from a bar raises red flags. Not only could it mean there was a drunk driver who needs to be held responsible, it could also mean the bar they were at also has consequences to face. This is due to dram shop law.

In Texas, dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Bars, liquor stores, restaurants, and even gas stations can be responsible when their actions get people hurt. Dram shop helps to see they're held accountable while also giving victims and families an opportunity to get much needed help.

Unfortunately, I rarely see police look into these factors on their own. Were authorities here more thorough, or should there be more thorough independent investigations?
