Commentary on Stephanie Gillespie Accident near Mauriceville

Obviously there's still a lot of work to do before anyone can really claim to understand what happened here. All the news can tell us so far is that a pickup crossed over the center line and crashed with the victim, but that still leaves a lot of blanks to fill in. Why did the truck go left of center? Was it just a matter of driver error, like distraction or speeding? Was something wrong with the truck that sent it off-course? What were road and weather conditions like? What about visibility? Was the pickup truck personal or commercial in nature?

All those questions and others still need clear answers. Not only does the victim's family deserve to know the whole story, but if that truck was commercial and the driver was on the clock then the company he works for may have a legal duty to make what amends it can as well. It's important to hold all the right parties accountable for the tragic damage done, but doing so typically requires enough time and care from investigators to get all the facts. Will police do a thorough enough job, or should independent experts step in to connect all the remaining dots?
