Commentary on Philippi Bus Accident on John Street

It's not clear what happened here, but that's not so unusual this soon after a serious commercial vehicle wreck. The question is whether or not the proper steps are being taken to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks.

People often take for granted that state or local authorities will get all the facts when investigating, and sometimes that's true. However, I've found over the years that officers don't always have access to the right tools and training to evaluate all the possible causes of a wreck like this one. That means subtle or complex details may go overlooked as the search for a simple explanation passes by them.

Clearly not having the full true story is a serious problem for anyone looking for answers and help after a wreck like this one, and unfortunately the company behind that bus isn't likely to freely offer either. Having independent investigators look into this could be crucial to ensuring the victims get what they deserve.
