Commentary on Car Accident on FM 973 in Travis County
Right now nobody can really say what happened here or why. Of course, a lack of helpful details may not stop some folks from jumping in with theories about common reasons for a late-night wreck, like speeding or texting. Some even have a tendency to blame just about any car wreck after sundown on intoxication, even if there's no specific reason to think so.
It's not that driver mistakes like those and others can't be responsible for the Travis County crash--just that it's much too early to jump to any such conclusions. Right now there are still a lot of possibilities that need careful evaluation: Operator errors like the ones above, yes, but also vehicle malfunctions or defects, bad road conditions, poor visibility, medical emergencies, and many others.
Finding the truth means considering all its potential factors before making any decisions. Will police take the time and care to get all the facts, or should independent investigators get involved to fill in the blanks a "by the book" investigation might leave behind?
