Samuel Tinsley Injured in Crash with Alleged DWI Driver near I-35 in Austin, TX

Austin, TX — July 31, 2022, 24-year-old Samuel Tinsley was seriously injured in a crash with a suspected DWI driver near Interstate 35 in Austin.

Authorities say the incident happened around 12:25 a.m. on the northbound I-35 service road at Onion Creek Parkway. Preliminary investigation suggests a Nissan sedan was headed north on the service road when it approached the Onion Creek intersection.

Tinsley's Honda vehicle was headed east on Onion Creek and started to turn left at the intersection when the Nissan driver disregarded his stop sign and crashed into the right-rear quarter of the Honda as it turned. The impact spun the Honda around and it came to rest in the median nearby.

Tinsley was seriously injured in the crash. The Nissan driver received possible injuries.

Investigators performed breathalyzer tests on the Nissan driver and determined he had a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of approximately .094 at the time of the accident.
