Motorcyclist Injured in Crash with Truck on Atkinson Drive in Lufkin, TX

Lufkin, TX — September 16, 2022, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a truck at an Atkinson Drive intersection in Lufkin.

Authorities say the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Atkinson at the South Medford Drive feeder road. Preliminary investigation suggests the motorcyclist was headed east on Atkinson when he was hit in the Medford intersection by a northbound truck that ran a red light.

The motorcyclist was ejected in the collision and came to rest underneath an uninvolved 18-wheeler that was stopped at the intersection. He was transported to an area hospital.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Motorcycle Accident on Atkinson Dr in Lufkin

One thing that isn't clear from reports is whether the truck in question was personal or commercial. Some may not think that matters much, but it could seriously affect the aftermath of the accident. If the truck was headed somewhere on a company's behalf and their driver ran the light and hurt someone, then the company may owe the motorcyclist some help with getting back on his feet.

I'm not trying to turn this into something it may not be; reports don't say one way or the other what kind of truck it was, and goodness knows East Texas has no shortage of personal pickups causing mayhem. I just know that most wrecks are complicated enough before it turns out they're also commercial accidents. That's a detail that should be clarified while seeking all the ways possible to help the victim recover from the damage done.
