Jossue Quezada Bocanegra, 1 Injured in Alleged Hit-and-run Accident in Houston, TX

Houston, TX -- August 22, 2022, Jossue Quezada Bocanegra and a teenager were injured as the result of an alleged hit-and-run accident.

Investigators said that the incident happened at around 6:00 p.m. along US Highway 90 along Wallisville Road.

It appears that 25-year-old Jossue Quezada Bocanegra and a 19-year-old man were outside of vehicles which were stationary along the emergency lane of eastbound US 90. While there, a Dodge Ram somehow hit the vehicles, hitting Bocanegra and the teenager in doing so. The Dodge driver then fled the scene.

Bocanegra and the other victim reportedly sustained incapacitating injuries, according to officials. Police say they identified the runaway driver as 29-year-old Pablo Rodriguez. Officials indicated charges for failure to stop and render aid were pending. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Jossue Quezada Bocanegra Alleged Hit-and-run Accident in Houston

It's not my place to say if any allegations here are true, but they can help me illustrate to folks just how complex the law can become when seeking to get victims and families the help they need. In the event a driver does flee the scene of a crash, folks tend to assume it's all open-and-shut once they're caught. However, prudent investigators know to consider why that person fled.

One reason for this is because it can dig up things like drunk driving, for example, which can then lead to a local establishment being liable because they illegally over-served the driver. I'm not saying that happened here, of course, but did authorities even bother to investigate? If not, there may yet be important details waiting to be brought to light.
