Commentary on Houston Truck Accident on Katy Freeway

There isn't a lot of clear information yet about how exactly this crash happened or what caused it, but considering its tragic aftermath a careful investigation is obviously in order.

To find the clear facts that tell the whole story police should look into many possible factors including:

  • Operator errors like distraction, speeding, or failure to yield;
  • Problems or defects in the vehicles involved;
  • Road conditions and design;
  • Visibility, lighting and sightlines;
  • Inclement weather; and
  • Traffic patterns in the area.

Checking all those potential issues and others is important, and until more dots are connected it's best not to guess what picture they'll make. Of course a "by-the-book" police investigation might not complete that picture before wrapping up, depending on whether they have the time and resources to really get to the bottom of things.
