Jairo Franco Injured in Auto Accident on Hicks Road in Midland, TX
Midland, TX — August 13, 2022, 30-year-old Jairo Franco was seriously injured in a three-truck accident on Hicks Road in Midland.
Authorities say the incident happened around 5:15 p.m. at Hicks and Main Street. Preliminary investigation suggests Franco was driving a Chevy Silverado east on Hicks when he approached the Main Street intersection. Nearby, 55-year-old Yolanda Hernandez was northbound on Main in a GMC Sierra, pickup, headed toward the same intersection.
Reports say Franco disregarded a stop sign and failed to yield to Hernandez. The trucks collided in the crossroads. After the impact they ran off the northeast corner; the GMC crashed through a fence and the Chevy hit a parked Ford F-250 in a private lot.
Franco suffered serious injuries in the crash. Hernandez and the Ford driver both reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Investigators noted a suspicion that Franco was intoxicated by alcohol at the time of the accident.

Commentary on Jairo Franco Accident in Midland
If police think alcohol use was a factor in this crash they should seek proof, which usually means either drawing blood for testing or getting the victim's hospital records to see his bloodwork results. It's unclear if either of those happened here, but neither would surprise me.
If clear evidence ultimately confirms that the suspect was impaired then some might think the only thing left is to charge him accordingly, but there could be more to look into--including ways to help him and the other hurt people get back on their feet. For example, if a local alcohol provider over-served the suspect to the point he couldn't drive correctly, that business may be responsible for the injuries he caused and suffered due to Texas dram shop law.
However, it's important to remember that alcohol is just a theory unless clear evidence shows otherwise. If police have already made up their minds and don't plan to look much further (including checking for a dram shop violation), maybe independent investigators should step in to be sure the whole story is learned and the victims get all the help they deserve.
