Commentary on Moises Gutierrez Accident in Butler County

Both out loud and on this blog I have long been an advocate of ensuring that independent experts look again at single-vehicle crashes to make sure no unusual or subtle details slipped through the cracks. Everyone tends to focus only on the most common potential causes for a wreck like this one--particularly driver mistakes like falling asleep or texting instead of watching the road. In many cases that turns out to be true, but I've seen plenty of others where a wreck's true cause was overlooked.

Police didn't mention theories about why this wreck occurred, so I hope that means they haven't jumped to any conclusions and are carefully investigating all the possible explanations. Anything from simple driver inattention to a defective part in the vehicle could be responsible for the damage done, and all potential factors deserve attention. The most important thing is to find clear answers for the victim's loved ones; anything beyond that would depend on what those answers turn out to be.
