Commentary on Norma Celestino Accident in McAllen

Nobody can say just yet exactly how or why this accident happened, and in the absence of clear details it's best not to jump to any conclusions. Commenters tend make guesses about driver mistakes (distraction, falling asleep), blown tires and part failures, bad roads, and other possible explanations, but only careful and thorough investigation could say for sure.

Having said that, I'm a little concerned about whether that level of care will be taken. Over the years I've found that law enforcement often restricts its efforts to only the most common reasons for these wrecks. Many times they still find answers because most crashes are caused by a handful of issues, but by ignoring other possibilities police run the risk of drawing incorrect conclusions and putting out incomplete or wrong reports.

That can be highly problematic for victims and families seeking real answers and help in the wake of these terrible crashes, which is why I often recommend that independent experts step in to fill in any remaining blanks. The victim's loved ones in McAllen deserve no less than the whole story.
