Chad Lee Killed in Motorcycle Accident on State Highway 308 in Larose, LA

Larose, LA — September 14, 2022, 36-year-old Chad Lee died when his motorcycle crashed with a truck and trailer on State Highway 308 in Larose.

Authorities say the incident happened around 7:00 a.m. along LA-308 at East 19th Street. Preliminary investigation suggests Lee was riding a Suzuki motorcycle north on the highway as a Ford F-350 pickup was towing a trailer south nearby. The truck driver was allegedly most of the way through a left turn onto 19th when the motorcycle passed through and hit its trailer.

Lee was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he died later that day. The Ford driver was unhurt.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Chad Lee Accident in Lafourche County

The reported details of this accident give a rough picture of what happened, but aren't exactly clear about how or why they went that way. Why did the motorcycle hit the turning truck's trailer? How far apart were the vehicles when the truck started its turn? How fast was the motorcycle traveling? Traffic laws typically say that a vehicle must cede the right-of-way to thru-traffic before turning, so what kept the Ford driver from doing so? Was it just a matter of misjudged timing, or is there more to the story?

I don't claim to know more than the news told everyone else, but that's also part of why I think it's so important for someone to look again and fill in all the remaining blanks. Knowing two vehicles crashed doesn't really explain the reason for that, and that information can be crucial in getting answers and help to people that need it. Will law enforcement be careful and thorough enough to do so?
