Joel Davis Killed in Truck Accident on US-75 Overpass in Allen, TX

UPDATE (October 18, 2022): Sources have identified the person killed in this accident as 37-year-old Joel Deaviran Davis.

Allen, TX — September 14, 2022, a truck driver died when his big rig crashed and ran partway off a US-75 overpass in Allen.

Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 11:35 a.m. on the 700 block of US-75 over West Bethany Drive. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim's Freightliner truck was southbound on the highway when it collided with a Ford F-750 highway sweeper truck for unknown reasons. The Freightliner's trailer overturned and the truck tractor swerved into a nearby barrier, then passed through it. The truck came to rest with its trailer overturned and its cab hanging partway off the Bethany Drive overpass.

Responders found the truck driver on the road outside his truck when they arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Commentary on Joel Davis Accident on US-75 in Allen

Nobody can say just yet exactly how or why this accident happened, and in the absence of clear details it's best not to jump to any conclusions. Comment sections tend to fill up with guesses about driver mistakes (distraction, falling asleep), blown tires and part failures, bad roads, and many other possible explanations, but only careful and thorough investigation can really shed more light on this tragic event.

Here's where I get concerned, though: Over the years I've found that law enforcement often restricts its efforts to just the most common factors. Many times those efforts still find answers because a lot of wrecks are caused by just a handful of similar issues. However, by ignoring other possibilities police run the risk of drawing incorrect conclusions and blaming the wrong thing or person. That can be highly problematic for victims and families seeking real answers and help in the wake of these terrible crashes, which is why I often recommend that independent experts spend the time and effort needed to learn the whole story. The victim's loved ones in Allen deserve no less.
