Commentary on Cement Truck Accident on Road 16 in Madera

It's not my place to speculate about what caused this crash, but I do have one concern from these reports: did the injuries really need to be so severe?

This obviously could have been a serious crash, and it's possible there were little to no safety precautions anyone could have taken to avoid these injuries once that truck started to roll. However, it's a little-discussed issue in the trucking industry that a lot of manufacturers knowingly build trucks such that they collapse far too easily during a rollover, causing drivers to be more seriously injured than they would have been in a safer truck from a more responsible manufacturer.

Did something like that contribute to this crash? Understanding the problem could help those involved here ask the right questions to get the answers they need.
