Six Injured in Tree Service Truck Accident on Main Street in Stafford, NY

Stafford, NY -- September 13, 2022, six people were hurt as the result of an accident where multiple vehicles crashed on Main Street.

Investigators said that the incident happened in the afternoon hours of Tuesday along 6204 Main Street. Genesee County officials indicated that a Wyatt Van Buren Tree Services truck was traveling eastbound on Main. It appears there are conflicting reports of what happened next.

Some say that a car tried to pass the truck on the right as it was turning while others say the truck pulled into oncoming lanes to make a wide turn, then reentered the path of the car. The vehicles somehow collided, sending the car up the back of the trailer.

Two of the tree crew members were said to have more serious injuries while the driver of the car and three other workers had less serious injuries. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable.

With details like this, it would be pretty ridiculous to try to jump to conclusions. But where are people supposed to get the facts when police can only say there are "conflicting" reports? It may simply be a matter of time before they clear things up, but it could also be like many crashes I've handled which required more thorough independent investigations.

In a case a while back, for example, police couldn't find out who ran a red light. They essentially called the crash unsolvable and the truck driver's word versus the other driver's. Once we looked into things, though, we soon found nearby security footage we clearly showed the truck run the light.

I'm not at all suggesting something similar happened here, but these shortcomings are ones folks don't always expect. Anticipating them and taking the steps to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks can be crucial for getting folks the answers and the help they deserve.
