Commentary on Minerva Campos Car Accident in San Juan

There are some specific details not mentioned in these reports which I think need some light shed on them. Usually, a rear-end collision like this will result in some whiplash and bumps and bruises unless the vehicle that did the rear-ending was large and going at high speeds. Why were these injuries serious, then?

Maybe circumstances were such that this woman's serious injuries are reasonable. But something I rarely see police look into is seatback failures. This is a defect where a seat assembly collapses during a collision rather than staying upright. As a result, people can be more seriously injured than they would have been in a safer vehicle. Maybe that isn't what happened here, but it's something that warrants investigations when it comes to getting people the help they deserve.
