Trucker Cited, Kids Hurt in School Bus Accident on Pensacola Boulevard in Escambia County, FL

Escambia County, FL -- September 12, 2022, children were taken to hospitals following an accident where a semi-truck hit a school bus.

Investigators reported that the incident happened in the area of Pensacola Boulevard and Nine One Half Mile Road in the early hours of Monday.

It appears that a school bus was traveling to Beulah Middle School at the time. Somehow, authorities said that a truck did not maintain a safe distance, and it collided into the back of the school bus.

Officials did not specify if any serious injuries occurred, but they said several children were taken to area hospitals for examination. Authorities say they cited the truck driver for careless driving.

Commentary on School Bus, Truck Accident in Escambia County

It may be a good sign that there are no confirmed injuries, as that sort of thing often means no one was seriously hurt. With that said, one official in the news put it best: "We won't know that for sure until everyone has been seen at the area hospitals." That's especially true with kids.

I don't mean to alarm anyone, but the reality is injuries can affect minors differently than they do adults. Something that may seem like no big deal now can cause issues as the child grows. If families never bothered to build a case because they assumed everything was fine, they may find themselves in serious need of help without the tools to get it.

That's why being safe and proactive early on is often a more prudent approach. I certainly hope for the best in a situation like this, but I also hope folks are taking the necessary steps to prepare themselves accordingly.
