Michelle Guevara Killed, 3 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident on Mansfield Highway in Fort Worth, TX

UPDATE (September 13, 2022): Recent details indicate that one of the victims, identified as 23-year-old Michelle Guevara, succumbed to her injuries due to the crash. Police say that they arrested Juan Manuel Lopez for alleged intoxication assault. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

Fort Worth, TX -- September 5, 2022, four people were injured following an accident which allegedly involved a drunk driver.

Initial details released indicated that the crash happened at around 4:00 p.m. in the area of Mansfield Highway and Wichita Street near Forest Hill.

Officials said that a driver believed to be drunk may have run a red light, causing a serious crash. From that crash, three women were said to have suffered critical injuries. The allegedly drunk driver, an unidentified man, also was seriously injured.

Folks tend to think a drunk driving crash results in someone being charged, and that's the end of it. While ensuring a drunk drivers gets a court date is important, there could be other factors at play. Not only could there be an accomplice to the crash, but there could be an avenue through which to get the victims and families the help they need.

Put simply, Texas dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Bars, restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations--these businesses have rules to follow. If people get hurt when they break those rules, dram shop gives people the tools they need to confront those negligent businesses.

Unfortunately, this is something that authorities rarely look into on their own. I certainly can't say if anything like dram shop applies here, but it would be irresponsible not to have someone with dram shop experience look into things more thoroughly.
