Commentary on Garrett Casey Accident in Midland
If two vehicles collided head-on as described in reports it seems like one driver or the other may have crossed over the center line. That still leaves the important questions of who crossed over and why, which I hope investigators are hard at work trying to answer.
Some may have their own theories about why a driver goes left of center, like falling asleep or distraction from a cell phone. Those and some other factors are responsible for many such crashes and they deserve careful investigation, but they're also not the only explanations.
Less-common possibilities have to be looked into as well to be sure the whole truth is found. Things like hazardous roads, vehicle or tire failures, or even sudden medical episodes while driving have to be accounted for as well. If every possibility isn't properly considered and ruled out, there's a risk that the wrong explanation will be considered the correct one.
Only time and further careful investigation can say what really happened in this accident. Will police take the appropriate care to ensure the truth is found, or would independent investigators stand a better chance of getting much-needed answers for the victim's loved ones?
