New Bern, NC -- September 6, 2022, James Farland was injured following an accident where a commercial truck crashed off a bridge.

Initial details released said that 53-year-old James Farland was in a commercial truck traveling along the Trent River Bridge. The truck lost control before crashing through the barrier and falling to the ground below.

Farland went to a hospital with injuries said to be serious. No other injuries were reported. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear.

There seems to be initial speculation that the driver made a mistake here. Frankly, that wouldn't be too surprising, considering how often something like this is due to driver error. But time and time again, I find that folks are far too quick to simply ignore other possibilities. Just because some other explanation could be unlikely doesn't mean it's okay to ignore. Mechanical issues, for example, can cause crashes like this. Yet authorities rarely do the work to consider that possibility. Are steps being taken here to at least be more thorough until the facts are clear?
