Commentary on Crystal Thomas Truck Accident in Midlothian

Generally speaking, drivers do have a responsibility to make sure the coast is clear before making a turn. But that doesn't mean there can't be contributing factors worth attention.

Authorities mentioned the 18-wheeler stopped by the truck stop entrance. Was it stopped waiting to turn, or was it illegally parked? There'd be a pretty big difference between those two, seeing as some could reasonably say an 18-wheeler parking somewhere it shouldn't and impeding visibility would be responsible for resulting accidents.

Maybe that didn't happen here, of course, but those are the kinds of questions authorities don't always ask, which is why independent investigations are usually more prudent.
