Commentary on Anthony Richard Vasquez 18-wheeler Accident in Ennis
No particular cause for the crash has been confirmed yet, but it's not surprising to see police mention the possibility of alcohol. Frankly, it's an all too common reason for wrong-way collisions. That's what makes it so important in these situations to consider things like dram shop law, which can involve local bars illegally over-serving someone to the point they didn't know which way they were driving.
But as likely as that is, it wouldn't be right to overlook other possibilities just because they're less likely. Poor signage, a lack of lighting, confusing road design, medical conditions, other emergencies--it's important investigators are at least thorough enough to rule out these other explanations. That way, steps can at least be taken to ensure victims and families know the full story. Only then can there be a proper pursuit of whatever form of assistance victims are entitled to.
