Authorities reported that the crash took place at around 6:50 a.m. near mile marker 338. It appears that a Ford F-150 traveling northbound along the interstate somehow crashed into a tractor-trailer.

Due to the collision, a child and a passenger in the vehicle had critical injuries. Police say the driver of the Ford was 21-year-old Isaiha Robinson. It is believed intoxicated driving may have been a factor, but this has not been confirmed.

Commentary on Possible Drunk Driving Accident on I-35 in Bellmead

These are obviously serious allegations, but it's not my place to speculate about criminal allegations. Instead, it's important to focus on what can possibly be done to get the victims the help they need. One complex possible factor to consider is dram shop law.

Put simply, it's important to find out if a local alcohol provider is involved in an accident caused by drunk driving. Dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Not only can that be a significant source of assistance for the victims and families, it can also help make the roads safer for the whole community by getting that business to clean up its act.

Like I said, it's not my place to say what did or didn't happen here. Folks simply need to know that there can be complex legal avenues standing between people and the help they deserve. Understanding this can be a crucial first step to successfully navigating those avenues.
