Commentary on Truck Accident on I-485 in Charlotte

Early reports about this accident give very few details about what happened, let alone why. As investigators work to find that out, they must look beyond the most common explanations (speeding, driver distraction, etc) and consider many other potential factors: Problems or defects in the vehicles, road conditions and design, visibility and sightlines, missing or unclear signage, bad weather, traffic patterns in the area, and many other things that could have influenced or even caused the crash.

Unfortunately I've learned over the years that a "by-the-book" police investigation doesn't always dig deep enough to account for all the possibilities. Incomplete or incorrect reports can make serious problems for victims and families if they seek answers or help after a wreck. That's why it's best that they know what investigators should look for, and that they work with experts who will do so. A standard police report may not deliver the information they need.
