Three Injured in School Bus, Truck Accident on US 62/82 in Terry County, TX

Terry County, TX -- August 26, 2022, three people were injured due to an accident where a school bus and a semi-truck crashed on US 62/82.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 5:41 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 62.82 and FM 211, outside of Meadow.

According to officials, a Levelland ISD school bus traveling through the intersection reportedly failed to yield, resulting in a collision with a tractor-trailer.

Due to the collision, the bus driver and an aid on the bus had reportedly minor injuries. Reports say no kids were on the bus. The truck driver also reportedly had minor injuries.

Right now, police said alcohol is a possible factor in the crash. They did not give any additional details.

A crash involving two commercial vehicles is serious enough, but one possible involving alcohol is only going to prove more complex. It's a miracle no one was more seriously hurt and that no kids were involved. But that doesn't make this situation any less serious.

The fact that either someone hauling 40 tons or someone in charge of safely transporting kids may have been under the influence warrants absolutely thorough investigations into what exactly happened here. Not only would that driver need to be held appropriately accountable, there might also complex legal avenues for getting folks the help they deserve.

Leaving something like this in the hands of police alone is only going to risk important information slipping through the cracks. If nothing else, a crash this serious needs an independent investigation to make sure those involved are getting all the facts.
