Commentary on Rollover Crash off SE Loop 410 in San Antonio

It's not clear what happened here just yet, and until more information is found I hope nobody tries to fill in the blanks with guesses. I understand how frustrating it can be not to have details, but it's always better to let only the facts tell the story after a wreck.

That actually raises a concern: I've learned over the years that investigating authorities don't always have the time, the training, or the equipment to find all the answers after a wreck like this. In many cases they just look for signs of the most common causes for traffic accidents--things like falling asleep, distraction from a phone, or in many cases intoxication (not that I'm accusing anyone of that here).

After giving the wreck a once-over and taking statements, officers draw some conclusions and fill out their reports. If there's no one to charge, they move on without much further effort. That "by the book" approach can leave a lot of lingering questions and frustration for the people affected, and in many cases it helps to have independent experts take another look. Will that be necessary here to ensure the truth is found and the people affected get the help they deserve?
