Corpus Christi, TX -- August 23, 2022, one person was injured after an accident where a motorcycle and another vehicle crashed on Staples.

Investigators reported that the crash happened late Tuesday at the intersection of South Staples Street and Holly Road.

Authorities said that a motorcycle and another vehicle collided. Details are scarce, though police reported they believe the motorcyclist was speeding and caused the wreck.

As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries. At this time, additional details are unavailable.

I certainly have no specific reason to doubt these reports, but I can't help feeling skeptical anytime I see reports blaming a motorcyclist. Quite frankly, a lot of people are quick to do that just because they think motorcyclists are inherently reckless. There are certainly reckless bikers out there, but many are responsible and safe only to be hit by larger vehicles when those drivers fail to keep a proper lookout.

Maybe nothing like that happened here, but experience tells me victims deserve some benefit of the doubt until all the facts are clear. Getting those facts may require independent investigations that can guarantee there will be no unfair bias affecting their efforts.
