2 Adults, 8 Children Injured in School Van Crash on Midway Road in Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX — August 25, 2022, two adults and eight children were injured when a car and a school van crashed on Midway Road in Dallas.

Reports say the incident happened around 8:10 a.m. near Midway and Boca Bay Drive. Preliminary investigation suggests only that a car collided with an unmarked passenger van, pushing it into and pinning it against a nearby utility pole.

The van's driver and eight students of a local school reportedly received various minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The car's driver was taken to a hospital by family members.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on School Van Accident on Midway Rd in Dallas

It seems like there's still a lot of work to do here to determine the cause and circumstances of the collision, but in the meantime at least there's some silver lining in that nobody seems to have been badly hurt. Having said that, I'm always a little hesitant to take that at face value right after a crash--particularly when kids are among the injured.

Even when reports say everyone's injuries were minor, it's important to take the accident seriously. Injuries affect children differently as they're still growing and changing. An adult might shrug off a so-called "minor" injury, but if proper care isn't taken a child's body might heal around it incorrectly. That can cause serious problems down the road, by which time it may be too late to get evidence about the crash and secure help for the child.

Taking appropriate steps and gathering evidence now helps ensure that kids' families are prepared to help them, even as they hope it won't ultimately be necessary. "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst," as they say, and crashes like this are no exception.
