Arlington, TX — June 15, 2022, Mirna Giron and Olga Pelayo were injured in a crash with a commercial vehicle on Little Road in Arlington.

Reports say the incident happened around 2:50 p.m. on Little Road near Office Park Drive. Preliminary investigation suggests Giron, 38, was driving a Volkswagen Atlas north in the left lane of Little Road as a Ford F-450 truck traveled north in the center lane.

Reports say the Ford driver attempted to make a left turn from the center lane and entered the VW's path, causing the car to hit the truck's driver side.

Giron and her passenger Pelayo, 61, reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash. The truck driver was unhurt.

Commentary on Mirna Giron, Olga Pelayo Accident in Arlington

It's at least some silver lining to read there were only minor injuries here, but it's important people understand that these early reports don't always tell the whole story. Even supposedly minor injuries should be taken seriously, especially after a commercial vehicle wreck. There's no telling whether the aftermath is really as innocuous as reports make it seem.

I worked on a wreck a while back where someone was rear-ended by a commercial vehicle. Doctors initially said he just had a sore back and sent him home with instructions to use a heating pad and stay off his feet. Days later his back pain was nearly paralyzing because the crash actually ruptured a disk in his spine. He needed surgery and lengthy rehab; what police reports first said was just a "minor" injury was really anything but.

Obviously I hope nothing like that happens after the Arlington wreck. If nothing else, that situation shows how important it is to take even seemingly-simple truck accidents as seriously as possible. Hopefully nothing too extreme happened here, but I see no reason that experienced professionals shouldn't look into things.
